What drew you to roller derby? How did you find out about NSRD?
I have always had a slight interest in roller derby but really never looked into starting it. When my family and I moved to Minnesota in the summer of 2017 I just googled roller derby and found the Satellites program at NSRD.

Tell us about your derby name!
Oh man, I picked a really lame one at first. I think it lasted a week. Picking a derby name is not an easy task. I knew it wasn’t doing the trick, so I was just brainstorming one night and came up with Sassberry. From what I hear, it’s pretty fitting.

What did you enjoy most about bootcamp? What was it like transitioning to league?
I loved bootcamp. I mean who doesn’t love getting their butt kicked 3 nights a week doing drills! My favorite part about bootcamp was probably just getting to know the other bootcampers. Transitioning to the league was strange (in a good way). You now have a team you’re trying to mesh with. Plus, all the people you spent the whole summer with are now on their teams and you don’t see them as often. There’s so much to learn about the inner workings of the league; it’s really awesome to be a part of!

What did you enjoy about your first bout/s? Were you nervous?
I enjoyed being with the Kilmores getting ready for our first game and putting the things we learned all summer into play. Of course I was nervous!

What have you learned from the Kilmores so far?
Oh! So many things, how to take direction from the vets and put that into my gameplay, that we work hard and play harder, to always have fun while playing, and so much more! #happykilmores #partyhard

What goals do you have in the league?
The goal I have for the league is for us to be getting more of a fan following. We all know how awesome roller derby is and everyone else should too!

What drew you to roller derby? How did you find out about NSRD?
I took my sister’s kids to watch a bout in Memphis and they said I should try out, so I did. I skated with a former NSRD skater with the Memphis Roller Derby before I moved here and she recommended the league.

I knew my team had my back and would support me no matter what. So it was a great time and I got a jammer award!

What have you learned from the Kilmores so far?
Always party hard and remember to have a good time.

What goals do you have in the league?
I’m working to hold my own on travel team I am not there yet, but I am trying and learning. The Supernovas are fantastic and I feel lucky to get to practice alongside them!
